The LVOY hive is buzzing with preparations for the 23rd Annual Adult Spelling Bee!

The Bee will be held Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 1 – 5 p.m. It will be conducted via Zoom again this year and spectators will be able to watch the action live on LVOY’s YouTube channel.

The Bee is LVOY's longest running and biggest fundraising event of the year! Proceeds support LVOY’s work with adults throughout Ontario and Yates counties who receive literacy tutoring as they work toward their goals of improving their English, studying for the GED, preparing for the US Citizenship exam, and more.

How it works:

Teams of three work together to spell words read by the announcer. The announcer will also use the word in a sentence, and team members may ask for the word’s definition and origin. The team then has 60 seconds to confer before giving their final spelling. The last team to correctly spell a word during a round is the winner of the round. Winning teams from each round advance to the championship round.

Team registration is now open and, as in past years, the cost is $300 per team. The first three teams who submit completed registration forms with payment will receive a ‘Free Word Pass’ that they may use once during the competition. Deadline to register is January 19, 2025.

If spelling is not your strong suit, sponsorships are also available starting at $300. This year, two generous donors will match all proceeds to the BEE up to $10,000!
