Education and solid literacy are keys to success in all areas of life. If you would like to learn the English language or improve your overall literacy in reading or math, or pursue your GED, we can help. We also help immigrants prepare for the US Citizenship exam.
Our program pairs volunteer tutors with learners for one-on-one tutoring sessions. Tutors help learners work toward their individual literacy goals.
How it works:
Learners first complete an intake process that helps staff get to know them, their literacy goals and any learning challenges. Learners must also complete literacy assessments that staff use to identify their current skill level and to develop an individualized learning plan. Learners are then paired with a highly trained literacy tutor.
Learners are expected to meet with their tutors for at least 1.5 hours each week. More tutoring may be arranged depending upon the learner’s interest and tutor availability. Learners must take assessments periodically so their progress may be measured.
There is no cost to the learner to receive tutoring services. The cost of materials, training, staff support, and more is covered through a variety of grants, gifts and donations from people and organizations who value literacy.
